Summer Reading 2023

2023 TYWLS Summer Reading Program

It’s BACK! This summer, you will participate in the third annual “TYWLS Summer Reading Program!”  During the summer, all TYWLS students and staff will engage in a shared reading experience of a single text selected by students and staff. Students in grades 6-9 will be reading The Hero Next Door. The book includes thirteen short stories by thirteen of the most acclaimed authors. Students in grades 10-12 will be reading Fresh Ink: An Anthology. The book includes short stories, a graphic novel and a one-act play, by thirteen of the most accomplished YA (Young Adult) authors. This collection addresses topics like gentrification, acceptance, untimely death, coming out, and poverty and ranges in genre from contemporary realistic fiction to adventure and romance.

By the first day of the 2023-2024 school year, students should read their grade-level selected text (each student should have or will receive a paper copy of the book before the school year ends) and post at least one comment about their favorite short story in the collection on their grade-wide Summer Reading Padlet Board. See the Summer Letter on your grade-wide Google classroom for more information about our Summer Reading Program and the link to the padlet board.
