Middle School Sports
CHAMPS (Middle School Students Only)
The CHAMPS Sports and Fitness Program is an initiative of the New York City Department of Education that promotes student physical activity during the critical years of middle school. The NYCDOE is planning to expand the program to elementary grades. The name CHAMPS derives from the initials of the five characteristics that describe our participants: Cooperative, Healthy, Active, Motivated, and Positive Students.
*For tryouts, make sure you have a parent consent form signed and get a concussion fact sheet before attending tryouts.*

Season: Winter (January 2nd to March 10th)
Games: On at least 5 consecutive Saturdays during the season at Hunters Point Community Middle School

Games: none but practices will be held in the TYWLS Cafeteria

Basketball (PSAL)
Season: Spring (March 19th to June 9th)
Games: On at least 5 consecutive Saturdays during the season at Hunters Point

*TRYOUTS for each sport will be the first or second day of the season. Coaches will determine the specific dates/times for practices. Practices will be minimum one hour and a maximum two hours in one day.*
MetroCards
Transportation to practices/games: All student-athletes who qualify to receive PSAL metro-cards must first appear on the team Active Roster in order to receive metro-cards for games. Only certain students that live 1.5 miles or more from the practice/game location will receive 2 ride MetroCards (Students would be dismissed from the site after practice/games).
