College Bound Initiative
Extracurricular Financial Aid Request Form 23-24
Alyssa joined TYWLS Astoria and CBI in 2023 as the director of college counseling.
CBI is a year-round comprehensive College Guidance program that works with students from 6th to 12th grade to ensure that they have access to and can afford a college education. CBI’s full-time school-based college counselor works closely with principals and teachers to promote a college-going culture that raises parent and student expectations. Directors of College Counseling guide students to overcome barriers to entry through early college awareness, application assistance, financial aid information, and enrollment support. As a result, CBI increases student college enrollment rate and helps them secure applications with no critical financial aid that makes higher education affordable and achievable. For CBI students, the question is not if but where they will go to college.
The college offices are open and accessible to all 12th grade students and their parents. The office contains resources to assist students in the college research process including college catalogs, guide books, and computer and web resources. Sade is available throughout the year and encourages students to begin the exploration process early.
The CBI office also hosts a senior parent night in the fall, a financial aid workshop in the winter, and a junior parent night in the spring. Parents are welcome to meet with Sade or to call or email the staff with questions whenever they come up.
Admissions staff from 40-50 colleges and universities schedule individual visits to TYWLS each year to meet with students.
