TYWLS Parent Association
The Parent Association establishes a connection between the school and the parents. They support parents and help them understand school life, school processes and school culture. The parent association expresses any concerns that parents may have to further get their points across. They are the voice of the parents.

Hello, I’m Esta, I’m your new PA President and mum to a 6th grader who is loving TYWLS and making new friends, along with a 9th grader also at TYWLS, who is a self-confessed being bookworm. She was also part of TYWLS soccer team this year, and learnt a lot about being part of a team, confidence, and raising each other up with a very supportive squad! This year I’m also co-leader of a Girl Scout troop 4684 – cookies are on sale next week! And I have had various roles of the parent association at PS85 for 6 years. I hope to be able to build the TYWLS community and have parents come together for events within the school. We welcome any and all, parent/guardian volunteers who have great ideas, various skills at fundraising and people willing to help execute them and make our school an even more wonderful place to be. Looking forward to an amazing year ahead.
Recording Secretary: Demetra Vafeas
My name is Demetra Vafeas. I'm excited to be TYWLS new PTA recording secretary. I was born and raised in New York . I've been working as a hairstylist for the past 20 plus years. I have a son in elementary school and my daughter is in sixth grade. I have always participated in my kid's previous school, either as a class parent or helping the PA achieve their goals. Additionally, I'm currently helping raise money at my children’s local CYO basketball program. I’m overjoyed to be a part of this community, support our daughter’s growth and see the school succeed.
Treasurer: Sean Holohan
Hi, my name is Sean Holohan and I am the father of a 6th grader who loves to read and will talk endlessly about X-men. I am the PA Treasurer of TYWLS in Astoria. I have worked in financial services throughout my career and have been a Treasurer at PS 166Q. I hope to serve our community in the role of Treasurer and work to continue making this school a great place to learn & grow. I look forward to working with you!
